FinalizationAfter your child arrives home, Adoption Institute of Colorado (AIC) will assist in the finalization process, ensuring that your adoption is legally recognized in the United States. In many cases, even if the adoption was completed in the child’s birth country, a re-adoption or finalization in a U.S. court is required to establish full legal parental rights and secure a U.S. birth certificate for your child. AIC will petition the court on your behalf, as the court with jurisdiction over the child retains legal authority until the adoption is officially finalized. Once your petition is filed, a court date will be set, marking the final step in your adoption journey. This legal process provides lifelong security for your child and grants them all rights and protections as a U.S. citizen.

Celebrate
Your adoption finalization is a day of celebration. We will be there to support you and celebrate with you as your adoption process becomes final. Many adoptive families invite extended family to join them in the court room. The judges love to be a part of this day and process. The judge will finalize your adoption in court and you will officially be done with the adoption process!
