Adoption Matching
Bringing a child home through international adoption is a life-changing journey, and the matching process is one of the most crucial steps. This stage involves careful coordination between adoption agencies, international authorities, and prospective adoptive families to ensure the best possible placement for a child in need. Below, we outline the key steps in the international adoption matching process to help families understand what to expect.

International Adoption Process
The international adoption matching process is a carefully coordinated journey that ensures children are placed with loving, well-prepared families. It begins with prospective adoptive parents completing a home study and assembling an adoption dossier, which includes background checks, financial records, medical evaluations, and USCIS approvals. Once submitted to the child’s country of origin, adoption authorities review the dossier and identify a potential match based on eligibility, family preferences, and the child's needs. Families receive a child referral, which typically includes medical history, background details, and photos, allowing them to consult with specialists before making a decision. After accepting the referral, families proceed with the necessary legal steps, including immigration approvals and travel arrangements. Most international adoptions require at least one trip to the child’s birth country, where families meet their child, complete court proceedings, and finalize documentation. Upon return to the U.S., additional steps, such as re-adoption and citizenship processes, may be necessary.
